Cross-linguistic Projection of Role-Semantic Information

چکیده
This paper considers the problem of automatically inducing role-semantic annotations in the FrameNet paradigm for new languages. We introduce a general framework for semantic projection which exploits parallel texts, is relatively inexpensive and can potentially reduce the amount of effort involved in creating semantic resources. We propose projection models that exploit lexical and syntactic information. Experimental results on an EnglishGerman parallel corpus demonstrate the advantages of this approach.

A Study of the Relationship between Acoustic Features of “bæle” and the Paralinguistic Information
Language users benefit from special phonetic tools in order to communicate linguistic information as well as different emotional aspects and paralinguistic information through daily conversation. Having functions in conveying semantic information to listeners, prosodic features form the essential part of linguistic behavour, manipulating them potentially can play an important role in transmitt...
متن کاملDynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach
Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...
متن کاملA Universal Feature Schema for Rich Morphological Annotation and Fine-Grained Cross-Lingual Part-of-Speech Tagging
Semantically detailed and typologically-informed morphological analysis that is broadly applicable cross-linguistically has the potential to improve many NLP applications, including machine translation, n-gram language models, information extraction, and co-reference resolution. In this paper, we present a universal morphological feature schema, which is a set of features that represent the fin...
متن کاملA Persian-English Cross-Linguistic Dataset for Research on the Visual Processing of Cognates and Noncognates
Finding out which lexico-semantic features of cognates are critical in cross-language studies and comparing these features with noncognates helps researchers to decide which features to control in studies with cognates. Normative databases provide necessary information for this purpose. Such resources are lacking in the Persian language. We created a dataset and determined norms for the essenti...
متن کاملTranslational Equivalence and Cross-lingual Parallelism: The Case of FrameNet Frames
Annotation projection is a strategy for the cross-lingual transfer of annotations which can be used to bootstrap linguistic resources for low-density languages, such as role-semantic databases similar to FrameNet. In this paper, we investigate the main assumption underlying annotation projection, cross-lingual parallelism, which states that annotation is parallel across languages. Concentrating...
